Matthew 6:25-34 Do not be anxious
"Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? (v. 25)
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (v. 33)
Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (v. 34)"
Every day, in every season of life, we face anxiety. A young girl fears the eventual loss of her parents. A student dreads a test, whether small or big. A mother or father worries about their children’s future—their education, their marriages, or their careers. Though the specific names of our worries may change as the seasons pass, it seems that worrying is the human "default mode."
However, as humans who are also children of God, we are called to do one thing: Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. When we do this, He adds everything we truly need—more than we can imagine, and more than we even think to ask for.
Lord, I pray for those who are overwhelmed by the hardships of life today.
Lord, I pray for myself—that I may seek Your kingdom through spiritual practices: reading Your Word, praying, fellowship, and preaching the Gospel.
I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
